Red Rocks offers an unforgettable experience, whether you’re here for sunrise yoga, hiking or watching a show – Red Rocks provides something truly magical in Denver‘s own natural acoustic amphitheatre!

From The Beetles to new-age piano tinklers, musicians of all kinds appreciate its excellent acoustics for playing. However, not everyone makes the cut and must prove themselves here first.

The History of Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Red Rocks has been formed over 300 million years by geologic uplift, the ebb and flow of ancient inland seas, and changes to Earth’s crust. Today it serves as an outdoor music and outdoor recreational mecca, with artists coming from all around the world performing on its legendary stage.

Early in the 1900s, John Brisben Walker began inviting musicians to perform on a temporary platform between two rocks in a natural amphitheater setting. Denver acquired this land in 1928; by 1936 renowned Denver architect Burnham Hoyt completed plans for an amphitheater whose construction would be complete by 1941.

Famous performers that have graced its amphitheater include The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, Diana Ross & The Supremes and U2. Concerts at this amphitheater are certainly popular draws; however the park also provides miles of hiking trails, yoga classes and an opportunity to experience its distinctive acoustic qualities during daytime hours.

The Seating

Red Rocks Amphitheatre’s hills are alive with heavy machinery as crews work frantically to complete upgrades before concert season opens on March 30. New gender-neutral bathrooms, family restrooms and other improvements will join an already updated Visitor’s Center and venue entrances as part of the massive upgrade effort underway at Red Rocks.

Amphitheater seating areas are surrounded by red sandstone monoliths; two of which, Ship and Creation Rocks, rise more than 200 feet above the seating area. Their legendary acoustic properties enable even whispers to travel a great distance across this impressive arena.

Red Rocks provides its best seats between rows 1 and 70; higher up seats may obstruct views or degrade sound quality. All guests are encouraged to bring food and drinks into the venue; glass containers are not permitted inside though. Be mindful that Red Rocks’ elevation can take its toll; ensure you pack plenty of water!
