Music is an accessible form of artistic expression that unites people across cultures and backgrounds toward ideals that can help bridge racial and ethnic divisions.
Musical instruments produce sound when plucked or rubbed together, and are divided into four groups: stringed instruments, wind instruments, percussion instruments and keyboard instruments.
Entertainment
Entertainment plays an invaluable role in human life, providing much-needed respite from daily stresses and worries. Entertainment may take many forms – passive like watching movies or concerts, or active like taking up sports as a hobby or game.
Music can provide emotional connection in multiple forms – from exhilaration during an exciting action sequence in a game to serenity as one explores an enchanting landscape. Music therapy delivered by qualified professionals may even serve as an avenue of therapeutic treatment.
The Entertainment Lions recognize outstanding and innovative music collaborations and branded musical content. Work submitted must demonstrate its ability to engage and inspire, creating lasting connections with its audiences through music.
Communication
Music can communicate emotion in many settings; people can listen silently at home while listening to a record, or they may become transfixed during a live concert with crowds singing and dancing together. Even those with hearing or auditory impairment can experience music by tuning into vibrations in their bodies.
Future research should investigate how emotions are communicated in musical interactions, both between listener and musician, including listeners’ emotional responses as well as expressive body movements by musicians. Home and online studies using automated video measures of behavior and brain activity would prove invaluable in this endeavour.
Music can polarize and divide societies and hierarchies (for instance, people may assume those who listen to country music are simple-minded), as well as being used for political manipulation or in expressing prejudices.
Education
Music education has been shown to have a profoundly positive effect on learning overall. When children play an instrument or participate in choir or band rehearsals or performances, they often form long-lasting friendships and form communities within which to work together in improving each others skills.
Music can significantly boost children’s IQ. Research has proven that playing music increases spatial ability and verbal memory; furthermore, children develop multistep problem-solving abilities which are necessary for solving other academic subjects such as creating scientific hypotheses or analyzing book characters.
Humans are naturally pattern-recognizers, and children who study music learn to recognize different patterns by listening to catchy melodies. This ability is invaluable for success in any endeavor!
Healing
Songs have the power to heighten emotional scenes both on-screen and off-screen, from movies and television shows to therapy settings. Music can serve as a powerful emotional amplifier in every setting where its use can make an impactful statement about our emotions and relationships.
Music can help ease anxiety, boost spirits and decrease pain levels. Furthermore, it can foster empathy while encouraging spiritual healing.
When selecting healing music, choose songs with lyrics that connect with your personal experiences and emotions. This allows for processing and healing on a soulful level while building resilience on your journey toward wellness. Music’s power can enhance every part of your day–from early morning wakeups to peaceful nights of restfulness.
Spirituality
Spirituality is a fundamental aspect of human existence that seeks inspiration, reverence, meaning, and purpose in life. Music can play an instrumental role in this experience by connecting us to divine sources of strength.
Spiritual experiences are difficult to study in a lab because they’re an unpredictable amalgamation of sound, sight, touch, postures, memories, associations and interactions – yet many people describe these experiences as transcendent or divine in nature.
The qualitative Feedback Loop Model inspired two hypotheses to be tested experimentally: (1) conditions which facilitate focussing on God result in stronger religious experiences, while (2) different musical conditions such as religious worship songs, empty song and 12-tone song exhibit varying intensities for feeling his presence.
Health
Playing an instrument, singing or dancing to music improves lung function and posture while stimulating memories and elevating mood – it can even help alleviate depression symptoms or promote relaxation for Alzheimer’s patients.
Music can help motivate movement, helping those living with Parkinson’s disease or stroke maintain balance and gait more comfortably. Unfortunately, prolonged playing can also lead to repetitive-use injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome or focal dystonia which could become serious issues over time.
Group music-making enriches the experience and provides a means of connecting with individuals from diverse ages and backgrounds who share your passion, helping break down any isolation that might exist for those suffering from health-related infirmities.
